13km Reached

50km Goal

I GetLoud because SickKids is a great cause and we need to help.

I'm fundraising for SickKids

This September, I'm committing to getting active and fundraising for SickKids GetLoud. I'm joining thousands of other SickKids supporters who are rallying together to build a new SickKids. And it's going to take all of us to get there.

SickKids has always been on the front lines in the fight for children’s health. But the clinical facilities at SickKids are close to 70 years old. Today, one of the biggest battles at SickKids is against the limits of an old building.

Help me unleash the full potential of SickKids by donating online – it’s safe, secure and easy. Any amount you give today will help me reach my fundraising goal.

Let’s get active for SickKids. When we unite in the fight against limits at SickKids, we’re unstoppable.

My Updates

Thank you!

And big thanks to all those who have donated. You've really come through. . And if you haven't, it's not too late to do some good.

Robin Hood and Blake’s 7

Sunday 11th Sep
I am the creator of a popular educational website about the Robin Hood legend. I’m also the co-host of a podcast on the 1970s/1980s British sci-fi TV series Blake’s 7 (sometimes described as “Robin Hood in space”). If I reach $500 in donations I’ll do an article on something with both Robin Hood and Blake’s 7 connections. If I reach $1000, I’ll do two articles. Choices are A) “A Sense of History” — the Robin Hood-themed episode of the 1960s adventure show The Avengers, which guest-stars B7’s Jacqueline Pearce or B) The Legend of Robin Hood, the 1975 TV series with B7’s Paul Darrow as The Sheriff of Nottingham.

First Week Completed

Sunday 11th Sep
A big thank you to all those who have contributed so far. It's a great cause, and I'm glad to see you out supporting it.

I hope my friends and contacts across the internet aren't put off by the biggest donations. Any amount you can give will help and will be greatly appreciated.

I know we can do this.

No hat and tights?

Friday 9th Sep
I don't think I'll be doing the hat and tights this year, as it didn't really raise much the last couple of years to do so. Also, my bycocket (that's a Robin Hood hat) is getting kind of ragged.

But then the spirit of Robin Hood isn't in the costume, is it? It's about combating injustice, helping those who need help.

And that's why I support the SickKids campaign.

My inspiration

Wednesday 7th Sep
The team I belong to is sponsored by my daytime employers. But outside of work, I have spent over 25 years as a scholar of the Robin Hood legend, running an educational website.

And one of the things that inspires me to do good in the world -- and helping raise funds for Toronto's Hospital for Sick Children is doing good -- is this scene from the 1938 film The Adventures of Robin Hood.

Doing good is its own reward.
