I'm fundraising for SickKids

Hi, my name’s Olivia Hastings and I’ve been a patient at SickKids for almost eight years. Here’s why…

In 2014, my health suddenly began to decline. I had massive headaches, was vomiting, always dizzy, and to top it all off no one knew why. All we knew was that a recent MRI showed brain swelling and lesions. And at only 7 years old, I was confusing entire hospitals due to my unknown condition. That is until we got to SickKids.

Allow me to explain my time spent at this hospital…

Let’s just say that when I arrived at SickKids, I wasn’t in the greatest position. After being in and out of my hometown hospital for over 3 months, things weren’t looking great. My cognitive ability was going downhill by the day, and we had no official diagnosis or treatment.

Then we met Dr. Yeh.

An incredibly specialized neurologist who was able to diagnose me after looking over the MRI images, and bloodwork. At this point, we learned I suffer from a condition called MOGAD, or in full, myelin oligodendrocyte glycoprotein antibody disorder. Although there is no complete cure for this, we are able to keep it under control through SickKids advanced research and treatments. And that’s what I’m here to talk about! SickKids.

SickKids is not only a hospital. It’s a research institute working to make groundbreaking medical discoveries, as well as a home to many children. And this home needs an upgrade. Did you know the hospital was first built in 1949? Although it was expanded in 1993, and many minor renovations have been done since then, it still is in dire need of an upgrade.

This is why your donation is so vital. The new and improved SickKids building plans to have 144 more beds, 8 more operating machines, and 6 more MRIs. This new building will improve the hospital experience for the 300,000+ patient visits they receive every year.

Additionally, your donation helps fund research towards cures for various illnesses, including different types of cancer, cystic fibrosis, and even my disease, MOGAD.

Thank you for your support.
